• Referees Nathan Blatch and Alex Brockway both selected to officiate the Bronze medal games at the recent Australian U18 Championships, which is a fantastic achievement.
• Youth League Men players Madol Chol and Amat Gak have been invited to a month long program at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra
• Youth League Men player Jarrod Sorenson has been invited as one of only 12 players to the NBL New Zealand Breakers selection camp

Champion Association of NSW (2000 members), Coaching Program of the Year (2000 members), Senior Volunteer of the Year, NSW – Yvonne Daly ( for outstanding contributions in scoretable and tribunals), Long Service Award – Rod Miskell (outstanding contributions in all areas of basketball for over 15 years), Administrator of the Year – Leonie Moore

The All Star boys are Thomas and Lachlan Charlton, Brayden Custodio, Daniel Goldrick, Jacob Zalac, Logan Rymer and Jasper Rentoy with Natalie Achampong, Ella Berryman, Sarah Creanor, Grace Kuypers, Alannah Mackenzie, Olivia Schneider, T’Keyah Smith, Binta Salawu and Tiana Watts all selected from our junior girls. All of these players were members of the 2011 U12 State Championship winning teams.

Selected to the U14 TAP program are Kevin Achampong, Caleb Field, Brendan Hands, Josh Kalwy and Tiearna Offner and for the U15 TAP program Joel Klein, Adam Lulka, Brennan Rymer, Nathan Tarasenko, Lara Camenzuli, Emma Mackenzie and Kayla O’Neill.

Logan is a key member of the U14 Division 1 Men who are currently sitting in second place on the Metropolitan League ladder. Congratulations Logan.

Penrith have now had 8 members selected to represent NSW in 2012, which is outstanding effort by the players and coaches and a great honour for our Association.

The U18Men also won Gold in a first time double for NSW with Curtis Sardi an assistant coach in this group. Congratulations to everyone.

Both Maddy and Tahlia were chosen in 2011 as two year athletes and in 2012 will be vital members of the team. All friends and members of the Association congratulate these two popular members and wish them the very best of luck.

The NSW U16 mens team will be announced next week and currently Penrith have Thomas Cowell, Izac Wallis and Brennan Rymer all in strong contention. Hopefully we will see five young Panthers on display at the Australian Championships in July and we wish the boys the best of luck for final selection

Curtis Sardi will be enrolling into University, Term 2 and has been endorsed by the Association for private coaching for individuals, groups and teams as well a specialised clinics during holidays or early morning.

Curtis will advertise what services he will be able to provide in the near future and will continue to be one of our Representative Coaches at Penrith. We wish him all the very best.

Jarrod has great experience in working with young children in schools and is a very energetic, talented coach with a degree in Sports Coaching. He will be visiting many schools and promoting our sport as well as converting these visits into new members and school based clubs. He has been with Step Up in the northern suburbs prior to this and is excited about the challenge ahead. Jarrod and Step Up will be advertising new ideas in the near future

New registration fees are Senior $119.00, Veteran $89.00, Junior, $89.00, Miniball $68.00, Secondary registrations $8.00 per month or $10.00 for two months.

The selection for Emily is her second, after representing NSW in 2011 in the U16 Women but for Rhiannon, it is her first NSW selection and we could not be more excited and proud for her. We all wish both girls the very best of luck at the Championships

The Association would also like to acknowledge Curtis Sardi as an Assistant Coach with the NSW U18 Men. We are sure that Curtis will do an outstanding job in this program and wish him every success.

Both boys have been given this opportunity after working with Damian in a new program designed to support and assist young Sudanese basketballers..

The Association has also confirmed nominations will be made to the Waratah Men Championship Division and Youth Men and Women. The nomination of both Youth Men and Women in conjunction with two teams in both the U18Men and U18 Women are seen as vital steps for the future and progression of our senior representative program. Further discussions will take place regarding players who do not fall into the Championship or Youth categories and options available for these players.

It is very rare for an Association to win both the Men and Womens title and we are all very excited and proud of this wonderful achievement. Both teams are wonderful ambassadors for our district and Association. We hope to see many of these players represent their State in the coming years. Jasper Rentoy 12M, Binta Salawu 12W and Tahlia Tupaea 16W were all named MVP of their Grand Finals.

The U16 Women were also very succesful only losing their GF in the dying seconds by one basket, but were still very pleased with the atitle of State Championship Runner Up. The U18 Men were unlucky not to make the final after finishing equal with 2 other teams and missing out on a countback.

Tahlia was selected from the NSW Combined High School team and their Gold Medal performance at the National All Schools basketball tournament in Camberra in August and is one of the youngest ever to make this team. There will be a fundraising trivia night organised to assist Tahlia and her family with expenses and we hope many of you can enjoy this evening and help her along the way. More details shortly.
