Angus Brandt shows his class

In a fantastic couple of days, Angus Brandt has produced an amazing performance for the Panthers Championship Men v Sutherland and then been included into the Australian Boomers squad for the upcoming World Cup. His fans and friends at Penrith send their congratulations for this wonderful achievement.

Last Saturday night, a classy Angus Brandt produced an amazing show of strength, skill and leadership in the Panthers Championship Men’s clash with the Sutherland Sharks to almost steal the show, producing game statistics of 11 of 19 2pt shots, 2 of 2 3pt shots and 12 of 13 Free Throws for 40pts..

Sutherland struggled to find a way to shut him down, sending players to trap on nearly every occasion but Angus kept finding a way to put the ball in the hole then continued to make the inside game tough for the Sharks at the other end with his size, agility and grit.

In an up and down game close on the scoreboard to the end, Angus stepped back to take the last shot and knock down a 3 pointer under pressure to send the game into overtime but unfortunately the Panthers were not able to sustain their momentum, eventually going down to the Sharks.

Angus was well supported by Sean Albert throughout the game against one of the leading teams. Penrith are missing Louis Brandt, Nic Pozoglou and Emlyn Dodd (all overseas at present) which did lead to inconsistency from the bench.

Hopefully when they are at full strength and if Angus can continue to suit up around his Australian and Kings commitments the Panthers will trouble all of the top teams and cement their place in the play-offs.

The Waratah Women have snuck into 6th spot with most games left against teams sitting near or below them on the ladder.

Unfortunately just as they are starting to get some form, superstar Alicia Poto sustained an ankle injury against the Comets and cannot play this week in Newcastle and Tahlia Tupaea on her return from Australian duties has a slight break in her thumb but may be able to suit up.

A win against Newcastle would move the girls into 5th spot.

Our Youth Men are also doing a fantastic job and currently are undefeated for the season. Sean Weekes and Bryce Field have been consistently strong for the boys and all of the team are looking to take the title for 2014 and move back into the Division 1 competitions where they belong.

THE NEXT CHANCE TO SEE CURRENT AND EX AUSTRALIAN AND NATIONAL LEAGUE PLAYERS AND GREAT UP AND COMING LOCAL TALENT AT YOUR ASSOCIATION IS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY THE 9TH/10TH AUGUST.

Let’s pack the stadium and help get our teams into the play-offs. Come to the games and show your support.
